Qur’anic Verses about Sodomy

Allah created the male for the female and the female for the male
Quran Soura 30 Aya 21 :
وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا لِّتَسْكُنُوا إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةً وَرَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.
Whoever abandons what God created for him and practices sodomy violates nature and commits a great sin.
Quran Soura 26 Aya 160-173 :
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
The people of Lot denied the messengers
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
When their brother Lot said to them, ’ Will you not fear Allah?
إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
So fear Allah and obey me.
وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
أَتَأْتُونَ الذُّكْرَانَ مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ
Do you approach males among the worlds
وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُم مِّنْ أَزْوَاجِكُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ
And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing.’
قَالُوا لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَا لُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُخْرَجِينَ
They said, ’ If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted.’
قَالَ إِنِّي لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ الْقَالِينَ
He said, ’ Indeed, I am, toward your deed, of those who detest [it].
رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهْلِي مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ
My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do.’
فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ
So We saved him and his family, all,
إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِي الْغَابِرِينَ
Except an old woman among those who remained behind.
ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا الْآخَرِينَ
Then We destroyed the others.
وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ۖ فَسَاءَ مَطَرُ الْمُنذَرِينَ
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.
Quran Soura 27 Aya 54-58 :
وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ وَأَنتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ
And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, ’ Do you commit immorality while you are seeing?
أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ شَهْوَةً مِّن دُونِ النِّسَاءِ ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ
Do you indeed approach men with desire instead of women? Rather, you are a people behaving ignorantly.’
۞ فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا أَخْرِجُوا آلَ لُوطٍ مِّن قَرْيَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ أُنَاسٌ يَتَطَهَّرُونَ
But the answer of his people was not except that they said, ’ Expel the family of Lot from your city. Indeed, they are people who keep themselves pure.’
فَأَنجَيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ قَدَّرْنَاهَا مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ
So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; We destined her to be of those who remained behind.
وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ۖ فَسَاءَ مَطَرُ الْمُنذَرِينَ
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.
The first people who practiced sodomy in human history were Lot’s people
Quran Soura 7 Aya 80-84 :
وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ الْعَالَمِينَ
And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, ’ Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds?
إِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ شَهْوَةً مِّن دُونِ النِّسَاءِ ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ
Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.’
وَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا أَخْرِجُوهُم مِّن قَرْيَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ أُنَاسٌ يَتَطَهَّرُونَ
But the answer of his people was only that they said, ’ Evict them from your city! Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure.’
فَأَنجَيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ
So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers].
وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals.
Quran Soura 29 Aya 28-30 :
وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ الْعَالَمِينَ
And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, ’ Indeed, you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds.
أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ وَتَقْطَعُونَ السَّبِيلَ وَتَأْتُونَ فِي نَادِيكُمُ الْمُنكَرَ ۖ فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
Indeed, you approach men and obstruct the road and commit in your meetings [every] evil.’ And the answer of his people was not but they said, ’ Bring us the punishment of Allah, if you should be of the truthful.’
قَالَ رَبِّ انصُرْنِي عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْمُفْسِدِينَ
He said, ’ My Lord, support me against the corrupting people.’
The door of repentance remains open for those who repent and quit
Quran Soura 39 Aya 53-58 :
۞ قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِن رَّحْمَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
Say, ’ O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.’
وَأَنِيبُوا إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ وَأَسْلِمُوا لَهُ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَكُمُ الْعَذَابُ ثُمَّ لَا تُنصَرُونَ
And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped.
وَاتَّبِعُوا أَحْسَنَ مَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَكُمُ الْعَذَابُ بَغْتَةً وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَشْعُرُونَ
And follow the best of what was revealed to you from your Lord before the punishment comes upon you suddenly while you do not perceive,
أَن تَقُولَ نَفْسٌ يَا حَسْرَتَا عَلَىٰ مَا فَرَّطتُ فِي جَنبِ اللَّهِ وَإِن كُنتُ لَمِنَ السَّاخِرِينَ
Lest a soul should say, ’ Oh [how great is] my regret over what I neglected in regard to Allah and that I was among the mockers.’
أَوْ تَقُولَ لَوْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ هَدَانِي لَكُنتُ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ
Or [lest] it say, ’ If only Allah had guided me, I would have been among the righteous.’
أَوْ تَقُولَ حِينَ تَرَى الْعَذَابَ لَوْ أَنَّ لِي كَرَّةً فَأَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Or [lest] it say when it sees the punishment, ’ If only I had another turn so I could be among the doers of good.’
