Verses from the Holy Qur’an reveal the reality of death, describe its severity, and explain how the fate of the disbeliever is disgraceful and the death of the believer is peaceful and joyful
And the intoxication of death will bring the truth; that is what you were trying to avoid.
Quran Soura 75 Aya 26-30 :
No! When the soul has reached the collar bones
And it is said, ’ Who will cure [him]?’
And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation
And the leg is wound about the leg,
To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.
Everybody dies: An inescapable reality
Death affects every soul without exception, and it is an inevitable transition to the abode of retribution, where creatures will be judged by the truth and every man will fulfill his work.
Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.
Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction. But if good comes to them, they say, ’ This is from Allah ’ ; and if evil befalls them, they say, ’ This is from you.’ Say, ’ All [things] are from Allah.’ So what is [the matter] with those people that they can hardly understand any statement?
Say, ’ Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you used to do.’
Death and life are in the hands of God alone, and no one can prevent death from happening to themselves.
Those who said about their brothers while sitting [at home], ’ If they had obeyed us, they would not have been killed.’ Say, ’ Then prevent death from yourselves, if you should be truthful.’
And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And we will reward the grateful.
Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.
Repentance is not accepted in the presence of death
Repentance is useless if the time comes and the truth is revealed, since sincere repentance is before death, when faith is a choice rather than a compulsion.
But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, ’ Indeed, I have repented now,’ or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.
And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, ’ My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.’
That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind.’ No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.
And He is the subjugator over His servants, and He sends over you guardian-angels until, when death comes to one of you, Our messengers take him, and they do not fail [in their duties].
Say, ’ The angel of death will take you who has been entrusted with you. Then to your Lord you will be returned.’
The death of infidels: The moment of shame and humiliation
The unbelievers face a death throes full of terror and humiliation, as the angels announce the torment, and their souls are taken out in a state of disbelief and ingratitude, in retribution for what they have done.
And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah or says, ’ It has been inspired to me,’ while nothing has been inspired to him, and one who says, ’ I will reveal [something] like what Allah revealed.’ And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death while the angels extend their hands, [saying], ’ Discharge your souls! Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant.’
And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved... They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], ’ Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.
The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves, and [who] then offer submission, [saying], ’ We were not doing any evil.’ But, yes! Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what you used to do.
Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves - [the angels] will say, ’ In what [condition] were you?’ They will say, ’ We were oppressed in the land.’ The angels will say, ’ Was not the earth of Allah spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?’ For those, their refuge is Hell - and evil it is as a destination.
Death of believers: Peace, tranquility and good news
When a good believer dies, he receives the good news of the angels, peace from God, tranquility in his heart, and is invited to the Garden of Bliss with contentment and satisfaction.
Indeed, those who have said, ’ Our Lord is Allah ’ and then remained on a right course - the angels will descend upon them, [saying], ’ Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.
We [angels] were your allies in worldly life and [are so] in the Hereafter. And you will have therein whatever your souls desire, and you will have therein whatever you request [or wish]
Quran Soura 89 Aya 27-30 :
[To the righteous it will be said], ’ O reassured soul,
Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],
